  • On Modesty

I generally hate the feeling of certain parts of myself exposed in public. Obviously.

I dread shopping for new jeans, because it seems that they are all cut so that they purposely fall off my body, and I spend my entire day hiking my pants above my hipbones, and picking out shirts that are long enough to cover any skin.
My mother, of all people, laughs whenever I am scrambling to find a shirt to wear under another cute shirt that is too low-cut. She thinks it's weird that I try to cover myself up because I don't like the guy at Circle K ogling my boobs while I'm trying to buy bread and milk.

Is it really that weird that I like to keep my crack in my pants, my boobs in my shirt, and my belly fully covered?

i especially hate low rise jeans.  they always feel like their falling off and you can't bend down wearing them :/

not at all. but covering up doesn't necessarily help either. i got hit on at work (joann fabrics), in uniform; white polo (not even remotely form fitting/low cut) and black pants (a little low/tight, but covered by said ugly polo). some guys are just plain sleazy.

I just had to say: I thought it was neat that you mentioned "circle K" and modesty in the same post. In Judaism, a K in a circle symbol denotes that a food products adheres to religious dietary standards. And modest clothing is a part of everyday life. Hehe, coincidences.

There are these shirts you can buy to go under low cut tops so they don't show stuff you would rather keep covered up. I forget the name, but they are tight so they go comfortably under clothes and do not feel like another layer of fabric.

I have been raised with the modesty principle. But I have also come to know for myself that I would rather have things covered up. Sometimes I where low-cut shirts, but they're not bad and I usually where a camisole with them. I also buy the extra long camisoles so that when I bend over or sit down, my back (and crack) doesn't show. Plus, I don't have anything to show off, so I'm just comfortable that way! Don't feel bad, you're not alone!

    It's not at all weird...
In fact, I can think of many people I wish would feel the same and pull up their damn pants.

That's not weird at all.  THIS is weird...I don't like eating ice cream cones in public because people can see my tongue.

I love meeting like-minded women.  Don't worry-- you are totally not alone!  I actually own a small business selling camisoles to women like us-- who like to keep our boobs and our derrieres out of the public eye.  I wear one of our a-little-higher-and-a-little-longer camis everyday under whatever cute shirt felt right for the day.  It's totally revolutionized my clothes shopping, because I can buy any jeans and a lot more tops now that I found these layering camis: http://www.sakurarose.com/layeringcamis1.html

Always nice to know we're not alone :)
